Finland last week shut all but one of its border posts to travellers from Russia, keeping open only the northernmost crossing located in the Arctic. On Monday he said his country had intelligence information on Russian authorities assisting the asylum seekers and that despite Finnish border closures, there were still more people heading towards Finland in Russia. On Monday, only three asylum seekers arrived in Finland through the remote Raja-Jooseppi station, the last open border post, and on Tuesday there were no entrants. The border station will remain open on Wednesday before closing until Dec. 13, the government said.

Finland infuriated Russia when it joined NATO in April, ending decades of military non-alignment, due to the war in Ukraine. Trillions of euros of financial products, from mortgages to car loans, remain pegged to the Euro Interbank Offered Rate as Euribor is officially known. The move to revamp Euribor aims to reduce the burden on institutions that do provide input by using a standardised approach. Having the broadest possible geographical spread of banks in Euribor's panel is seen as the best way to have a full picture of euro-denominated lending costs. Schirmann highlighted that countries with active bank-to-bank lending markets such as Finland, Ireland and Greece currently had no banks on Euribor's panel. Cutting the need for banks to provide bespoke so called "Level 3" estimates should also "significantly diminish" the time and costs involved for banks.

ZURICH, May 15 (Reuters) - Novartis (NOVN.S) on Monday named the intended new board members of Sandoz, the generics business it plans to spin off to shareholders later this year. The Basel company approved the recommendations of Sandoz Chairman-designate Gilbert Ghostine for the 10 members of the board, which will start preparatory work in June. Others to be appointed to the board include former Novartis executive Karen Huebscher, Aarti Shah, who worked at Eli Lilly (LLY.N), and Deutsche Lufthansa (LHAG.DE) CFO Remco Steenburgen. Unilever (ULVR.L) Chief Legal Officer Maria Varsellona, and former Procter & Gamble (PG.N) executive Yannis Skoufalos, complete the nominations to the committee. "The Sandoz Board of Directors will start preparatory work from June onwards and will be effective following the planned spin-off of Sandoz in the second half of 2023, subject to Novartis Board of Directors and shareholder approval," Novartis said on Monday.

Born in 1985 in Helsinki, she grew up near Finland's south-western industrial hub of Tampere with her mother and her mother's girlfriend. Only six months in, then-party chair Antti Rinne was forced to resign over his handling of labour strikes, and the Social Democratic Party (SDP) chose Marin to replace him as prime minister. Marin soon found herself managing Finland's response to the COVID-19 pandemic and then Europe's energy crunch caused by neighbouring Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
